And now for something completely different...

Hey Hobbyists,

Thought I'd share my most recent work.  I have been working on the something a little outside of my norm for these blogpages.  I was recently given my grandmother's toptani saddle.  Although it was in a little rough shape due to a couple of years in the basement, it is beautifully crafted and required something special to keep it in good shape.  So here are the fruits of my labour.

And that is the saddle box i have spent the last 2 weeks building.

until next time,  Happy Hobbying

Hey Folks,

Haven't updated in a little while but this was because I was in the process of moving.  I am now living in the Maritimes and I have been modelling my first house.  Great part out of it is the basement space.  There is enough room for a 4 X 8 table, maybe I'll keep an eye on geek chic, or maybe I'll build my own.

This is the new hobby space.  I spent a couple of hours last night, or rather earlier this evening organizing all the bits that I have been collecting over the years, and there is a lot of it.  One of the things that have waited to put together for a while a Contemptor Talon.

Given that my Ultramarines are just post heresy and are on a vengeance streak, I figured ripping up a Word Bearer would be in the mix.  Also picked up my copy of "Mark of Calth" which should inform the killing process.

The second Contemptor I wanted to do another type of pose.  The molds came with the resin gauges still attached, and my first thought was that they looked like cement dividers.

So this is number Two.

I'll keep you posted with any updates.

Happy Hobbying.

More builds before the move

The time gets closer to the move and although I am looking forward to the move i am not looking forward to the month without hobbying.  The new house has a great basement with plenty of space for hobby stuff and a half decent gaming table.  A buddy of mine built one from scratch not too long ago and I might ask for his plans.  In the interim, I will have to get away with what I can and hopefully wont buy too many models in the time between.  Until then, here is the offering of the week.

Enter "Assassin" a forgeworld thunderbolt that I purchased 3 years ago.

Some battle damage from a close call.

The overall paint scheme was inspired by a P-51 and the ME-109.  Both great brawlers.

I'm planning on doing some nose are at some point but the rest has to be painted first.

The base has been completed for a long time, but this is the project it was intended.

There will be a requirement for some more snow work before this project will be done.  Additionally I am thinking of adding some icicles.

Until next time, Happy Hobbying.

Fruits of my labour

I guess you could call the spurt of imagination and creativity a result of my avoiding work.  I just realized that I will be moving in a little under 12 days, which is pretty crazy.  Given that you don't come here to listen to me talk about my life, here are the photos.  Two more photos of my Primarch build on the display board.

  Roboute Guilliman looking appropriately regal.

Another photo of the Big Blue Smurf.

If you were wondering what the weirdly shaped craters were for you have your answer.  Four Drop pods are just the star of this Ultramarines army.

Additionally, I got some work done on my Canadian Army for Flames of War.  Ever since they put out the rules for the 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade, I have wanted to make a Sherman army based around the Governor General's Foot Guard, also know as 21st Armoured Regiment.  13
tanks painted in 2 days.

.

The CO's tank.  Figured he would have an appropriately wicked Tank.

One of Three firefly's ready to take out some Panzers!

The biggest problem I run into lately was figuring out the unit insignia and C/s numbers for the tanks.  I have a pretty good understanding of current naming conventions given my work, but trying to find it online has been a pain in the ass.  Luckily I have a copy of A Brief history of the 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade in Action July 1944 - May 1945.  Hopefully this will enlighten me.

Cheers,

Happy Hobbying.

Folks,

So I got a bunch more work done on the display board and wanted to share.  If you have seen or played Dawn of War, you know what I am building.  The Imperial Guard Field Command always seemed cool, so I wanted to take a stab at making it.
the board is approximately 2 x 2 ft.

I intended put a Battle Fleet Gothic star-ship on the top of this monument, but haven't been able to find one yet given the game has been out of production for almost 10 years.

The skulls on the building are custom made using fimo, not the best but figured the rough look was appropriate.

I'll show some more later.  The snow is drying.

Cheers.

Happy Hobbying.

Painting and display boards

I'm back, finally, and actually had some time off to get back into painting and display board building.  Given work, I have spent way too much time in the middle of nowhere Alberta and i feared that my skills got rusty.  Good news, they aren't all gone.  Had a brilliant idea and this is where it started.  Over the next couple of days, you will be able to figure where this fits into the grand scheme of things.

The display board for my True scale Ultramarines is coming along nicely and should be complete before the end of the week.  Additionally I'm glad to get some hobbying done as I will be moving this August to Fredericton, New Brunswick.

I'll update more when i have the photos.

Happy Hobbying.

Folk,

I was unable to post of Saturday due to a conflict with work. To keep you interested and to let you know some of the other things that i am working on.  While still searching for more material for wargaming, I came across a photo of the book cover "Unremembered Empire".  Specifically this photo is interesting as we usually don't find clear photos of  Primarchs or of City Scapes, and this one has both.

I find the ideas of architecture in the far future quite enthralling.  Below you will find a number of photos of buildings I constructed using pink foam and the Imperial Sector buildings as a base.

This one is a warehouse with a scratch built thunderbolt crashing through the wall.  Painting will begin this weekend, and i will be sure to post more photos as I go.

Below is the apartment block, or Hab-Block if you will.  The design comes from a concept sketch that was drawn for the game Dawn of War II.

And finally, the work office of the Administratum.  More photos to follow this weekend.

Happy Wargaming.

Cheers,

Hello again,

The plan from now on is to post at least once a week and maybe twice on weekends.  Given my work schedule this should be doable until I get sent away for a couple of weeks to endure the frozen wilds of Canada.  Until then I will continue to post.

Like I said before, I went and found the best mock up sketches and

From http://lynxc.deviantart.com/

From http://devmarine.deviantart.com/

and after compiling all of the design elements and scrounging my bits boxes, I came up with a plan.  Given the time frame I had chosen, Post Heresy, I decided that Roboute Guilliman would most likely be armed with the Fists of Ultramar and would carry a Gladius, possible that of his father as a secondary weapon.  He would probably wear some form of Terminator armour as it provides protection and a tactical advantage, going with his personality. Using many of the pieces I already had and custom making templates where needed I started piecing the beast together.  I wanted to rush the process so many times and in a couple of places it is evident that I did.  That being said, I have also not actually modelled anything in quite a long time.

below is the final product, let me know what you think.

I'm quite happy with the outcome and might build another one to represent him Pre-Heresy as well.

Cheers, and Happy Modelling.

Hail!

I have returned to modelling like Caesar crossed the rubicon.  With the interest in the Horus Heresy, and having recently read Know No Fear, I decided to make the Ultramarines 5th Grand Company in the time shortly after the consolidation and embarking on the Great Hunt.  The army would include dreadnoughts, tactical squads and a custom model representing Roboute Guilliman.  The first thing I was going to do was start with some research.  I read the descriptions and searched the great google machine for inspiration.  Having found a number of pictures including fantastic cover art and a bunch of deviantart sketches I began compiling what i thought were the bet representations.  Some pictures are over the top, but some really great material is available.  I'll post some of the pieces in the next post.  Next, I began sketching my own ideas.  This too will follow.  Finally I started putting the pieces together.  Below is a teaser of the finished model.

Hope you enjoy.  Happy Modelling.
