Hail!
I have returned to modelling like Caesar crossed the rubicon. With the interest in the Horus Heresy, and having recently read Know No Fear, I decided to make the Ultramarines 5th Grand Company in the time shortly after the consolidation and embarking on the Great Hunt. The army would include dreadnoughts, tactical squads and a custom model representing Roboute Guilliman. The first thing I was going to do was start with some research. I read the descriptions and searched the great google machine for inspiration. Having found a number of pictures including fantastic cover art and a bunch of deviantart sketches I began compiling what i thought were the bet representations. Some pictures are over the top, but some really great material is available. I'll post some of the pieces in the next post. Next, I began sketching my own ideas. This too will follow. Finally I started putting the pieces together. Below is a teaser of the finished model.
Hope you enjoy. Happy Modelling.

IP theft or am i just a jerk?

So i'm not trying to be a dick, okay yeah i am, but i'm justified.
I designed the template for this Marauder bomber back in the summer of '08. It was posted to a yahoo site, where gamers share scratchbuilt templates. I made a couple of them, but i was just giving back to the community. And today i was looking at another forum that has lots scratch built models. Work in Progress is a great site for all this kind of stuff.

What i'm ticked about is the fact that this guy is building my plane, and didn't give me cred for it.
My name is on it. so all i'm looking for is a bit of credit. is that too much to ask?
Then again, i did my own form of IP theft, so i can't be too picky. lol

Flames Of War post
So First off, i am in the process of building a FOW table, and i wanted a heavy city feel to it. The armies I am in the process of building are British Airborne and 4th Canadian Armoured, both of which were involved in the liberation of Holland. So i have been gathering pictures of small towns and cities, to get a feel for 1940's Europe.
I was in a model store here in Edmonton, and found these N gage models and think they are about the right size for Flames of war terrain. On the right you will find a Brewery building that i built over the weekend. Never really understood why they bother to using different colours for parts as most people paint the models after they build them. on the left you will see a store front building, made of poly-resin, i really like the model, as it adds height to a game i haven't really seen much in the way of built up areas. I'm thinking of painting it with a black primer, a dark red brick finish and white trim on the wood. It is of pretty basic construction, and was only about 15 dollars, so i built two. why buy one when you can buy two, right?
And the last thing, i have primered a bunch of tanks to be base coated and weathered this weekend.
talk to you all again soon.
cheers

4 months late, but i actually have pictures.
So here is the first of 4 drop pods i painted in the Hiatus. I have decided to go with the light blue colour scheme, with a black trim. Reminicent of Ultramarine 5th Company. As i have stated before, I am making a post heresy Marine army. I still need to weather this one with black. i will be using the airbrush to add smoke burn marks on the bottom and the top around the engine.
the next photo is the group of 4 drop pods. The idea is to have 7 drop pods in total, 4 standard pods and 3 Dreadnought-pods. There will also be a squad of Assault marines that will drop along side the army.
I'll post some more photo's in the next couple of days to me Flames of War army. I'm interested in making a table with a heavy city content. I have found some N gage models that should fit the bill.
cheers.

A Hiatus

I haven't posted on here in a while because i was in a transitional move across the country and couldn't get away to do any wargaming. Good news is, I am going to be in the same place for the next 3 years, so i might be able to do some of the projects I've been dreaming up in the mean time.
Just an idea of what will be coming out in the next few weeks:
-more Ultramarines
-Drop pods
-FOW tanks
i might even do a book review if i get ambitious.
so stay tuned.

April works

With the coming of april came lots of work. i am spending the next couple of weeks away from home. atleast i have the weekends to work on some projects. So i have been working on the Drop Pods. i painted them, which was more work than i was expecting. i have been using a couple of tutorials on modelling and painting to get some inspiration.
http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?31535-Space-Marine-WIP-Part-2./page4
this has helped with the painting. Starting with a Black base coat, i then airbrushed burnt umbra over top to give the rusted look. To seal it against the worst damage, i sprayed future floor polish across the model. for the weathering, i used hairspray and salt. when the hairspray was dry, i started the blue paint layers. unfortunately i used too many layers, and unlike normal painting, i didn't need to begin with a really dark blue. so the paint layer was a bit thick, but i think it came out pretty good. but no photos yet.
As for the models, i am using both these site:

and onto march
so i feel like a jerk. i started posting sporatically and then i stopped for a bit. if i want to get anywhere i have to keep posting. so i will be posting.
First off i found this photo and i am going to post it as a motivator.
it was originally done by cpl_saint, so good on you.
Second, i completed the four plastic drop pods. they are primered black and ready for painting. i am currently working on the second Tac squad. Stretching the models is hard work.
completed so far is 1 tac squad and 1 assault squad.
i spent the weekend in ottawa, where i went to Fandom II games. A pretty good little store with plenty of models and a really large reference material library for sale. I picked up a number of cool things too.
-a box of shermans for flames of war
-a british airborne mortar platoon
-A bridge too far, rule book
-a box of Warlord Roman Legionaires
-some reaper masterclass paints
-and a bag of Cthulhu from fantasy flight games
so i'll be busy, until next time
cheers
